Air Mauritius (MK)

Air Mauritius is the Mauritian national carrier and one of the two main operators on the Paris CDG - Mauritius route (Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam airport, IATA code MRU). The airline generally operates daily or near-daily direct flights from Paris CDG, depending on the season.

Air Mauritius’s fleet includes Airbus A330s on the Paris-Mauritius route. Air France (AF)

Air France also operates direct Paris CDG - Mauritius flights, generally as a codeshare or in partnership with Air Mauritius. Some rotations are Air France’s own flights with French crew. The airline uses A350s or A330s depending on the rotation.

Air France’s service quality on long-haul routes is generally well regarded by French travelers: better-than-average food, attentive service, and a Flying Blue (Miles) program that accumulates easily. On the other hand, prices are often slightly higher than Air Mauritius’s.

Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa: Serves Mauritius from many French cities with a connection in Addis Ababa. Total duration: 14 to 18 hours depending on the connection. Fares are often 100 to 300 euros lower than direct flights. Service quality is good — the airline is one of the best in Africa.

Air Seychelles: Occasionally operates flights to Mauritius from African hubs. Less regular but can offer attractive fares.

British Airways via London: Option from Paris CDG with a connection at Heathrow. Total duration: 13 to 15 hours. Prices vary by season.

Tip: If you’re departing from Lyon, Marseille, Nice, Nantes, Bordeaux or Toulouse, a connecting flight via Dubai (Emirates) or Addis Ababa (Ethiopian) can be cheaper and almost as fast as traveling to Paris CDG for a direct flight.

Mauritius Airport (SSR)

Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam airport (MRU) is located in Plaisance, in the southeast of the island. It’s the only international airport in Mauritius. It has a renovated main terminal and decent facilities for an airport of this size: duty-free shops, restaurants, banks, car rental desks, and a reasonable number of boarding gates.

Advantage of the airport’s location: It’s very close to Blue Bay, Mahebourg and Ile aux Aigrettes — travelers who want to start their stay in the southeast of the island can reach their accommodation in 15 to 20 minutes. By contrast, hotels in the north (Grand Baie, Trou aux Biches) are 60 to 80 minutes away by road.

Be flexible on dates: Shifting by 3 to 5 days can change the price by 200 to 400 euros. Departures midweek (Tuesday, Wednesday) are often cheaper than departures on Friday or Sunday.
